JP8244/9244 Beginning-of-Life Ethics

In this subject contemporary controversies surrounding the beginning of human life will be discussed such as: definitions of life and of humanity; the moral status of the human embryo; the morality of abortion; the morning-after pill; contraception; artificial reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilisation and GIFT; human cloning; foetal tissue transplants; genetic screening and pre-natal diagnosis; and animal-human hybrids. Students will be equipped with a body of this knowledge which will enable them to undertake professional work in the field and serve as a basis for further learning.
